Greetings!
First off -- First Basma Hafla -- come and shake it all off -- your stress, your lack of live music, your loneliness. It's time. Basma is a beautiful space.
I'll be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening with a posted printed setlist of our tunes. I can help you sign up for a solo dance spot, and as always there will be lots of OPEN dancing. Pete Jacobs is coming down from Niwot to play as well.
Next news: Arthur and I returned recharged from New Mexico: Albuquerque Folk Fest was a blast!
We really enjoyed hanging out with my Mom, Penny, our dear friend I've known older than dirt, Ronaldo Baca, and new fiddle friend, Maria Dickinson. Maria blew us away with her work ethic, supportive personality and chops. What a treat!
The Albuquerque Folk Dancers and Santa Fe Folk Dancers showed up and it was wonderful to play 100 year old Tsamikos and Lesnotos for an ecstatic group dance! My Balkan Dance Aunties Barb Friedman and Patsy Gregory had big smiles.
Sadie and Lorena from Sirena Studios were just sublime, and Arthur even had a cameo shuffle dance encore that brought the house down.
Albuquerque Journal Theater at the National Hispanic cultural Center
I jammed with Randy Martin's exquisite banjo playing backstage as he warmed up. However, the highlight was hearing this new quartet come together.
Here's the FB Live Link in case you missed it.
Ronaldo is just a gem of a musician and human being. So is Maria. Arthur really shone.
I am such a lucky, hard working, human!
We're planning on recording our set at Third Eye Recording Studios January 2 and 3, 2023 adding Pete Jacobs.
I'll need some funds raised for that: stay tuned!
Oh, and we made the News (!!!) on Channel KRQE:
Fountain Patio Stage set later: sublime.
In other news, I'm adding some music and dance to this fundraiser for Beirut and Beyond,
Friday November 4th
in Five Points area of Denver.
with Maissaa Bachir,
Aurora based Palestinian Dance Artist.
There's been a big drop in funds to the Palestinian Civil Defense organization in Lebanon refugee camps(wiki article is fascinating) lately. Basically, PCD is the medical and fire services that are refugee led and volunteer staffed in seven camps for almost a decade.
RSVP or donate on the Beirut and Beyond site.
And I'll leave you with this:
November 12 is a very special concert in a new to us, absolutely gorgeous venue:
mark your calendars for Tarjama in Cherry Hills area of Denver at First Plymouth, UCC.
Music and dance build bridges from the past to the future by basking in the present.
I need help covering my expenses lately -- please support me by buying my music or just donating.
That would be wonderful! Thank you!
Meg
